Despite recently making David Raya’s loan move permanent, sources suggest that Arsenal is interested in potentially buying one of the top goalkeepers in Serie A. The guy in question is Alex Meret, the goalkeeper for Napoli, who has started five of the I Partenopei’s first seven Serie A games this season. In those seven games, he has kept two clean sheets and averaged 1.8 saves per game.
The claims, which came from “Football Transfers,” state that Arsenal is considering a move for the 27-year-old Italian with the intention of using him as Raya’s backup custodian going forward.
Raya first came to Arsenal during the 2023 summer transfer window as a Brentford loan, but this summer, the Gunners made the move permanent by exercising their £27 million (€32 million) option to purchase the Spanish player when the successful loan period ended. Raya earned the 2023–24 Premier League Golden Glove with his incredible 16 clean sheets in 32 Premier League games while on loan with the team. It is understandable why Arsenal was eager to get him on a permanent basis.
