The 2023-24 season for Real Madrid will go down as one of the team’s most historic runs, especially given the adversity they had to overcome.
Los Blancos have been close to flawless all season, and barring two defeats to Atletico Madrid, have a spotless record. Considering that they played almost the entire campaign with Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao injured only goes to show the team’s greatness.
Both players have now successfully returned from their ACL injuries and are working hard to recover their best version. With La Liga won, after all, the conditions are amicable to work towards match-fitness.
The target is clear
Thibaut Courtois made his awaited return from injury in Real Madrid’s clash against Cadiz and has started for the team every league game since.
He was, however, understandably dropped against Bayern Munich considering the weight of the game and his relative lack of match fitness.
According to reports from Jose Luis Sanchez, however, the club have a massive goal in mind concerning the Belgian star’s return.
Ancelotti and Co. plan to hand Courtois the start against Borussia Dortmund in the UCL final next month and all hands are on deck to get the player ready in time.
Back to his monstrous best
It only took Courtois three games to get back to his blistering best for Real Madrid, and his performance against Alaves would have given the management sufficient confidence in his level.
In 90 minutes on the night, the Belgian star recorded a stunning 10 saves including five from inside the box. In the process, he denied an xG of 1.59 and maintained a clean sheet for his side.
With two more games to go in La Liga before the UCL final, the manager has decided to give Courtois the start against Real Betis and Dortmund.
His presence at Wembley, needless to say, can prove game-changing as was the case the last time the team played a European final.
If true, Lunin will play his final game of the season for the team against Villarreal tomorrow.
