Jude Bellingham’s last-gasp equalizer at Wembley saved a stumbling England from the shame of a second straight defeat.
The Real Madrid player’s goal was almost the last kick of the match as England, who were defeated by Brazil on Saturday, secured a late draw with Belgium.
However, England’s performance was ruined by two costly mistakes made by Lewis Dunk, the defender, and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, which allowed Youri Tielemans to put Belgium ahead.
After the match, Bellingham, the hero of England, stated, “I know the rubbish we would have got if we had lost two games in a row.”
You have to play these games with perspective; many of the players are making their debuts; I have played with many of those boys previously.
We had a lot of opportunities; I had a chance where I should have scored and a few more. I’m glad I could make up for it to the squad, but we ought to have won given all the opportunities we had.
But going into the Euros, these two games will help us a lot.
“I understand that not everyone will like it, but you have to accept these games for what they are, enjoy the good parts, and draw lessons from the bad.”
Bellingham gave the newcomers, especially Mainoo, high marks. “I’m sure the manager is happy with the players you saw because they came in and played really well,” he remarked.
“Well, I’m happy with my teammates for the two games. We can’t be happy with a draw or a loss, but we can be happy with some of their play.”
“Everyone that joins the squad has our trust.” We trust every guy who enters the team because they are all good players and are there for a purpose.
“Jude is the headline tonight, that competitive spirit, desire not to lose, to win in the end was deceive in getting the late goal,” England manager Gareth Southgate stated in response to Bellingham’s performance.
However, the entire crew demonstrated that and overcame obstacles. I observed something tonight that pleased me much.
On Tuesday, Ezri Konsa, Ivan Toney (who scored England’s opening goal), and Kobbie Mainoo made their debuts for the national team.
Mainoo, a teenager for Manchester United, stood out in especially, and Southgate said, “Kobbie gave us something different from a creative standpoint.”
His abilities to receive under pressure, ride difficulties, and manage the ball in confined spaces are evident to everybody. We are quite pleased with his accomplishments; it’s amazing how young he is.
But after 10 minutes, Stones hobbled off with a groin injury, which may make him questionable for Manchester City’s title match against Arsenal on Sunday. It was a costly night for England.
To be clear, Southgate says it wasn’t a risk to start Stones in both contests, saying, ‘It wasn’t a risk playing him in the two matches. If he is experiencing issues, we are sad to hear that they are not related to overload. I detest sending players who aren’t totally fit to their teams.
“Very special to get on the scoresheet,” Toney continued after making his debut. If we had lost the match, we might have been a little depressed, but Jude scored the goal, so I thought we were deserving of something.
