Alex Keble looks at how Mikel Arteta’s side will cope without key defender for Sunday’s huge match.
Ahead of their crucial Premier League matchup with leaders Liverpool on Sunday, Mikel Arteta’s team is under more pressure after Arsenal’s 2-0 loss at AFC Bournemouth. With William Saliba suspended after his sending-off at Bournemouth, they couldn’t have chosen a worse moment to see what their defence may look like without him. With the exception of two EFL Cup games, Saliba was a constant in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FA Cup last season. As a result, Mikel Arteta faces a new problem in his absence, one for which there is no clear answer.

Arsenal also has additional issues. After suffering an injury against Shakhtar Donetsk, Riccardo Calafiori is also doubtful to play against Liverpool, while Arteta says winger Bukayo Saka is “unlikely” to be able to participate.
