Arsenal are reportedly lining up a move for a big money striker next summer
Arsenal are reportedly lining up a move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, in a deal that would produce a club record signing for the Gunners due to the Magpies hefty price tag that they placed on the attacker.
Isak is currently in talks with Newcastle over signing a new contract, but due to the fact that they recently signed winger Anthony Gordon to a new deal, it may be difficult for Newcastle to pay Isak his desired salary as well as Gordon’s.
It has sparked rumours of a possible exit for the striker who has been linked to Arsenal. According to Fichajes, Arsenal would be willing to pay up to £100 million for Isak which would equal their club-record signing of Declan Rice in the summer of 2023.
Isak has impressed at Newcastle, scoring 37 goals in 75 matches for the Magpies since he signed from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a fee of £58 million. He could be on the move to the Emirates next summer should the Gunners commit to signing a new striker.
Despite his reputation, the Sweden international has had a slow start to the 2024/25 season at Newcastle scoring just two goals in seven Premier League games as many expected the 25-year-old to challenge for the golden boot this year.
Arsenal looking to add a striker
The Gunners previously had interest in Isak over the summer alongside several other top strikers. Gabriel Jesus is the only pure striker at the Emirates currently and has been inconsistent lately; he is yet to score this season.
Mikel Arteta has relied on Germany international Kai Havertz instead this season who has been impressive scoring four goals in nine Premier League matches. However, Havertz is more comfortable playing behind a striker and so he could form a partnership alongside another striker should the Gunners decide to add one next summer.
Arsenal were linked with Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Jhon Duran during last summer’s transfer window and could go back in for either of them as alternatives to Isak should Newcastle become bullish on the 25-year-old’s transfer fee.
Premier League rivals have been keen on Isak
Arsenal aren’t the only team in the Premier League linked with the Newcastle United man as Chelsea had been linked to him during the early part of the summer. The Blues were also heavily keen on Victor Osimhen and Jhon Duran but, like Arsenal, couldn’t land a striker during the window.
It could lead to a bidding war between Mikel Arteta’s side and Chelsea, as both have similar targets up front which could produce moves for both teams either in the January transfer window or in the summer.
Alexander Isak’s current mark value is around £60m-£65m, but as Newcastle demand a fee of around £100 million, the Gunners may decide to look at other targets should their price seem like more of a fair deal.
