Chelsea legend John Terry has made a bold claim regarding Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions this season, singling out Gabriel Martinelli as the team’s “biggest problem.” According to Terry, Martinelli’s inconsistency and lack of decision-making in key moments could ultimately cost the Gunners a chance at lifting the trophy, allowing rivals like Liverpool or Manchester City to snatch the league title.
Speaking on a football panel, Terry did not hold back in his critique of the Brazilian winger, who has been a pivotal figure for Mikel Arteta’s side. “Martinelli is Arsenal’s biggest problem,” Terry stated. “While he’s got pace and flair, his end product is unreliable, and he often fails to deliver in the critical moments. You can’t win the league with players like that making key mistakes or disappearing in big games.”
Terry went further to compare Martinelli to wingers from rival teams, emphasizing the difference in their efficiency. “Look at players like Mohamed Salah or Jack Grealish; they’re decisive, composed, and make things happen when it matters. Martinelli has talent, but talent without consistency won’t win you titles. He’s not at the level Arsenal need to compete with the best.”
Martinelli’s season has had its ups and downs. While his speed and directness make him a threat on the flanks, he has faced criticism for failing to capitalize on his chances and for occasionally being a defensive liability. Terry also raised concerns about Martinelli’s ability to step up in high-pressure situations, which he feels could derail Arsenal’s campaign.
