Pep Guardiola threatens to drop star player for Real Madrid clash after public complaints

Pep Guardiola has jokingly threatened to rest Rodri for Manchester City’s clash with Real Madrid in midweek. Following a 3-3 draw in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash, City are hoping that home advantage on Wednesday can help the team book their spot in the final four of the competition

City are aiming to win back-to-back trebles this campaign, with Guardiola’s side starting to find their form in the Premier League to lay down a challenge to the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Citizens looked somewhat unstoppable last season but have failed to reach that frightening level just yet, with the busy fixture schedule seemingly taking its toll on some players.

Phil Foden and Rodri are among those to have featured the most regularly for City this season, and the latter has remained a vital clog in Guardiola’s side. The Spain international was rested for City’s clash with Luton Town on Saturday, having publicly spoken out about his fatigue, and his manager has joked that the midfielder will remain on the sidelines on Wednesday.
