Mikel Arteta has provided a significant injury update on Arsenal forwards Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka ahead of the clash with West Ham today.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has delivered encouraging news regarding the recoveries of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, who are both recuperating from hamstring injuries.

Saka has been sidelined since sustaining his injury against Crystal Palace in December. Following a successful surgery, the England international is reportedly recovering well. Meanwhile, Martinelli picked up his own hamstring issue during Arsenal’s Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United but appears to be slightly ahead in his rehabilitation.

Despite their depleted forward line, the Gunners remain firmly in contention for their first Premier League title since 2004. They have an opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool this weekend. Before Liverpool’s highly anticipated showdown against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Arsenal will host West Ham United at the Emirates on Saturday. A win would move Arteta’s side to within five points of Liverpool, intensifying the title race.

When asked whether Saka or Martinelli could return in time for Arsenal’s Champions League fixtures in March, Arteta remained cautious: “I’m not sure; that’s a question for the doctors.”
