As the NFL free agency period approaches, the New York Giants are reportedly closing in on a significant acquisition to address their need at the quarterback position. After moving on from Daniel Jones last season, an answer is needed to enter next season.
Aaron Rodgers is said to be in advanced talks with the Giants, potentially setting the stage for a significant shakeup in the league.
NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers to New York Giants?
According to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com, who spoke on The Pat McAfee Show, the discussions have reached a stage where Rodgers’ arrival at the Meadowlands before the start of the new league year would not surprise insiders.
“From my understanding right now… they are pretty significantly down a road where they are negotiating to the point where, if Rodgers ends up a Giant before the start of the league year, it would not be a shock to people in this area and at the Meadowlands,” Stapleton reported.
The potential move could answer the Giants’ ongoing quarterback questions, especially as they look likely to miss out on top draft prospects like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.
Rodgers, 41, is past his peak performance years but is still seen as a valuable leader and playmaker.
NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers Drawing Interest
Despite his age, Rodgers demonstrated robust performance in the previous season, posting a passer rating of 90.5 with 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 17 games. This level of play indicates that he still can significantly influence games.
“My understanding is, yes, they have talked about what it would take to get Aaron [to the Giants],” Stapleton added, noting that “from a football fit, this is something that they’re seriously considering.”
Rodgers also has other suitors, with teams like the Las Vegas Raiders and the Tennessee Titans possibly viewing him as a bridge quarterback who could lead while they develop younger talents.
However, for the Giants, who are projected to potentially address their long-term quarterback needs in the 2026 NFL Draft, securing Rodgers even for a short stint could be a strategic move to stabilize and inject experience into their lineup.
