According to an ESPN reporter this morning, it was verified that the Chicago Bears wide receiver’s interview with TNT Sports was the cause behind his abrupt contract termination. According to ESPN reporter sources, he declared 25 hours ago that he was ready for a fresh start following his talks with TNT, reaffirming his affection for the Lakers. This morning, the Chicago Bears formally dismissed him after discovering a betrayer’s statement in his speech because of…

NFL analyst explains why Bears should be considered ‘legit postseason contender’

Turns out spending money is a good idea?

No one wins the offseason like the Chicago Bears.

And as much as that’s become a cliche in the Chicagoland area – and a punchline in Green Bay, Detroit, and Minnesota – someone’s gotta! So when you think about it like that, it may as well be the Bears. No you’re coping.

Even for the Bears’ standards, it’s been a particularly busy offseason in Chicago. The Ben Johnson era is here, and with it, some *wildly* lofty expectations. For example, in a recent offseason roundup article from NFL.com (!!) one of their columnists (Jeffri Chadiha) says that the Bears’ moves have turned them into ‘a legit postseason contender’ already. Already! Ben Johnson’s reputation truly does proceed him. Here’s the reasoning:

NFL.com says the Bears won the offseason, and who am I to argue?

“This one isn’t close. Chicago landed the most coveted coach in the hiring cycle, former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. General manager Ryan Poles also rebuilt the interior of an offensive line that allowed an NFL-high 68 sacks last season (signing center Drew Dalman and trading for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson), and he shored up a defensive line that couldn’t pressure quarterbacks consistently (with the additions of edge rusher Dayo Odeyingbo and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett). Yes, the Bears had a ton of salary-cap space heading into the offseason. They’ve also spent their money wisely and look like a legit postseason contender today.”

I’m in! Although it’s not like Bears fans needed some NFL.com columnist to raise their expectations for this season. Still, it never hurts to hear people on the league’s own website talk about the Bears with a level of enthusiasm and optimism that’s usually reserved for your most annoying uncle.

As it turns out, when you spend a lot of money on good coaches and players, good things happen. And in this scenario, ‘good things’ means internet praise from NFL analysts. But that certainly beats how the internet’s been talking about the Bears for the last couple years, so beggars can’t be choosers. It felt like the Bears were winning the offseason, and now the NFL itself has confirmed that. I don’t see any articles on NFL.com talking about the Packers. Just sayin’.
