The statue will stand proudly outside Great American Ball Park, near the iconic Crosley Terrace, depicting Brennaman behind the microphone – the very instrument through which he narrated 46 unforgettable seasons of Reds baseball.

The unveiling date, just months away, marks a highly anticipated tribute to Brennaman, who retired from the broadcast booth in 2019. For nearly five decades, his distinctive voice, insightful commentary, and signature catchphrases became the soundtrack of summer for countless Reds enthusiasts. This permanent installation will serve as a lasting reminder of his profound impact on the team, the city, and the hearts of its fans.

“This sculpture will be a tribute to Marty Brennaman’s incredible legacy and represents all that he means to Reds Country,” said Phil Castellini, Reds President and CEO, in the official announcement. “For nearly five decades, Marty was the voice of the Reds, bringing unforgettable moments to life for generations of fans. Now, his presence outside Great American Ball Park will be a lasting reminder of his passion and love for this team and this city.”

The location of the statue, near Crosley Terrace, holds particular significance. Crosley Terrace itself features statues of Reds legends Ted Kluszewski, Ernie Lombardi, Joe Nuxhall, and Frank Robinson, evoking memories of the team’s storied past at their former home, Crosley Field. By placing Brennaman’s likeness in this esteemed company, the Reds are acknowledging his unique role in connecting those historical eras to the modern game and its fans.

Brennaman’s career with the Reds spanned from 1974 to 2019, a period encompassing some of the franchise’s most iconic moments, including the Big Red Machine era, the 1990 World Series victory, and numerous individual achievements. His broadcasts were characterized by his passionate delivery, his honest and sometimes critical observations, and his uncanny ability to capture the drama and excitement of each game. Phrases like “This one belongs to the Reds!” became instantly recognizable and deeply ingrained in the team’s culture.

The bronze sculpture is being created by local artist Tom Tsuchiya, known for his previous work on the Crosley Terrace statues. This ensures a continuity in artistic style and a fitting aesthetic for the tribute. The depiction of Brennaman behind the radio microphone is a poignant choice, emphasizing the primary medium through which he connected with fans for so many years.

The announcement of the statue has been met with an outpouring of emotion and appreciation from Reds fans. Social media platforms have been flooded with messages sharing favorite Brennaman memories, classic calls, and expressions of gratitude for his decades of service to the team. For many, Brennaman was more than just a broadcaster; he was a constant companion, a storyteller, and an integral part of the Reds experience.

“Marty was the voice of my childhood, my adolescence, and my adulthood,” said lifelong Reds fan Sarah Miller. “Hearing him call a game just felt right. He was honest, he was funny, and he truly loved the Reds. This statue is a wonderful way to say thank you for all the years he gave us.”

Brennaman’s contributions to baseball extend beyond the Reds. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000 as the recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, recognizing his excellence in broadcasting. He was also inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2021, further solidifying his legendary status within the organization.

The unveiling ceremony on September 6, 2025, is expected to be a major event, drawing fans, former players, and members of the Reds organization to celebrate Brennaman’s legacy. It will undoubtedly be a day filled with nostalgia, appreciation, and the unmistakable feeling of “This one belongs to the Reds!”

This statue marks a significant step in honoring the non-playing figures who have shaped the Cincinnati Reds franchise. While statues of players are common, recognizing a broadcaster in this manner underscores the vital role that storytellers like Brennaman play in creating and sustaining the emotional connection between a team and its fanbase.

As September 6th draws closer, anticipation will continue to build for the unveiling of this fitting tribute. For generations of Cincinnati Reds fans, Marty Brennaman was more than just the voice of the team – he was a part of the family. Now, his presence will forever grace the entrance to Great American Ball Park, ensuring that his legacy endures for all who come to cheer on the beloved Cincinnati Reds. The statue will stand as a testament to a remarkable career, a cherished voice, and an unwavering love for the game and its fans – a legacy that truly “belongs to the ages.”
