Arsenal are reportedly still in the race to sign Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane on a free transfer next summer, according to reports from Germany.
Sane, who transferred to Bayern in a £54.8 million move from Manchester City in July 2020, has had a challenging season, with limited playing time and no starts in either the Bundesliga or the Champions League so far. The 28-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, opening up the possibility of him leaving as a free agent.
German outlet Bild reports that while Sane prefers to stay with Bayern, he would need to accept a reduced salary from his current €288,000 (£240,000) per week, excluding bonuses, to secure a new deal.
However, Arsenal and Manchester United are monitoring the winger’s situation and could pursue a free transfer if Sane and Bayern fail to agree on terms. Both Premier League clubs are considered “serious options” for Sane should he decide to move on from Bayern.
