Arsenal set to make Emirates Stadium change next summer

Amid talk of Arsenal’s possible stadium upgrade and expansion, one change that does appear to be in the works is a new phone mast to increase matchday connectivity.

Tim Payton reports on Bluesky that Arsenal have promised a new world-leading data mast next summer to allow everyone to get a strong mobile phone signal at the Emirates Stadium.

James McNicholas adds that such an addition wouldn’t come cheap, but it would certainly be a welcome boost for matchgoing supporters.

As it stands, Arsenal fans struggle to access the internet on matchdays. There was significant confusion among supporters on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign, as almost no one could load the score in the Manchester City game to see if the title was still a possibility.

The likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have installed Wi-Fi systems in their stadiums, allowing fans to get online by that method if phone signal fails. But it seems Arsenal are opting for a different approach, directly boosting mobile signal instead.

There’s been talk this week that Arsenal might be considering expanding the stadium, though Payton describes the rumours as “overblown”. The Gunners are indeed reviewing the situation, but the eventual changes are likely to be more minor.

Earlier in the summer, Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke confirmed that “internal conversations are starting to occur about [the stadium]”, adding: “It is not an easy renovation, but we see the possibilities of what’s there.”

We’ll have to wait and see where those conversations lead in the coming weeks and months.
