Arsenal star Martin Odegaard suffers setback in his recovery, will not return until December

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has suffered a setback in his recovery from his ankle injury and is not expected to return to action until December, according to Con Harrison.

The scout and insider, who has been featured on the BBC and The Overlap and is followed by the likes of Ben Jacobs, Jacob Steinberg and Darren Lewis on X (formerly Twitter) revealed on the social media platform this morning.

Arsenal uploaded a clip of the Norway international midfielder earlier this week, leaving fans hopeful that he was nearing a return.

Odegaard could now remain on the sidelines until around Christmas, which could be a huge blow for manager Mikel Arteta and his side.

They have done well without their skipper so far, holding on to their unbeaten run across all competitions, but being without his creativity in the middle of the park has been telling.

Arteta has had to change his plans without his creator-in-chief, but Arsenal could struggle in the final third in some of their games going forward in the absence of such an influential player.

They return to action after the October international break with a trip to Bournemouth before hosting Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool afterwards.

The Gunners will then face Preston North End, Newcastle United, Inter Milan and Chelsea before the November international break, and Odegaard will also miss the game against Manchester United on December 3 from every indication.

Arsenal are looking to go one better in the Premier League title race this term after near misses in the last two campaigns, and they could do with the midfielder returning to action sooner rather than later.
