The Los Angeles Chargers are making another significant cap-saving move by releasing running back Gus Edwards, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This move will free up approximately $3.125 million in cap space.
Edwards, who joined the Chargers last season on a two-year, $12.4 million contract, rushed for 365 yards and four touchdowns on a 3.6-yard per carry average over 11 games, while dealing with injuries. His release could indicate potential changes in the Chargers’ running back group, as J.K. Dobbins is set to enter free agency after a strong performance as the lead back last season following an injury.
Gus Edwards is back and could take Chargers to a new level
With free agency and the draft approaching, running back has become one of the Chargers’ biggest offensive needs, alongside quarterback Justin Herbert. Before this cut, the Chargers also saved $25 million in cap space by releasing Joey Bosa, bringing their total available cap space to around $90.6 million as free agency nears.
