Castleford Tigers Begin Work on New Training Pitch

Castleford Tigers have officially broken ground on a brand-new 4G training pitch, marking another step forward in the club’s redevelopment plans. The construction, which began last week beside the OneBore Stadium, will replace the team’s former grass training surface with a modern, all-weather pitch designed for year-round use.

The first phase of the project involves laying a tarmac base, with the installation of the synthetic surface scheduled for next month. Once completed, the upgraded facility will also feature improved lighting, fencing, and power systems. The entire development is expected to be finished by early January, just in time for pre-season preparations.

Club Chief Executive Danny Wilson described the new training pitch as a clear sign of progress under the club’s new ownership. Since businessman Martin Jepson took over in May, upgrading Castleford’s infrastructure has become a top priority. Wilson explained that the investment demonstrates “a real commitment to improving standards both on and off the field.”

This initiative is part of a broader redevelopment plan for the club’s facilities. In addition to the training pitch, Castleford Tigers are preparing for a major overhaul of the main stand at OneBore Stadium. The proposed design will transform it into an all-seater stand with enhanced player facilities, modern hospitality boxes, and a new banqueting suite. Work on that phase is expected to begin next autumn once funding and design plans are finalised.

In recent months, the stadium has already seen several upgrades, including new seating in the Princess Street Stand, an updated video screen, and LED perimeter boards — all contributing to a stronger club grading score.

For incoming head coach Ryan Carr and his staff, the new 4G surface is a major boost. The Tigers have faced a challenging few seasons, finishing near the bottom of the Super League table, and the improved facilities are expected to play a key role in helping the team rebuild momentum and consistency.
