Celtic’s biggest area of need in the summer transfer window is expected to be goalkeeper. The Hoops will need to bring someone in capable of replacing Joe Hart between the posts as the veteran Englishman is set to retire at the end of the campaign. He has been the number one in goal and an exceptional leader for the club for the previous three seasons, since his move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021.
It goes without saying that replacing Hart will not be an easy task. And it looks like Celtic have their eyes on an Austrian international as a potential replacement for the English legend.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic, Southampton and PSV Eindhoven are plotting moves to sign Patrick Pentz. His ability on the ball means he fits the type of profile Brendan Rodgers is looking for.
Pentz is a Bayer Leverkusen player but he is currently out on loan at Brondby IF. He has impressed at the Danish club and that seems to have been enough to interest clubs around Europe.
Celtic want to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper
Pentz joined Bayer Leverkusen from Reims in early 2023 on a two-and-a-half year deal. He left on loan last summer. That means that when he returns, there will only be a year left on his contract, which could make him available for a bargain transfer fee.
Pentz spent the early portion of his career playing for Austria Wien. He did leave in 2022 to join Reims and it has not been smooth sailing since then. He was in France only half a season before making the move to Germany.
The Austrian did not make a single appearance for Bayer Leverkusen before heading out on loan to Brondby IF. So, one would hope that Celtic are completely sure about Pentz’s quality before making any move for him. They do not need a repeat of the Vasilis Barkas situation.
