Victoria Beckham has shown a side of herself rarely seen by the public in the first trailer for her upcoming Netflix documentary. The former Spice Girl, now a 51-year-old fashion designer, broke down in tears as she recalled the financial woes that once left her luxury label “millions in the red” — a situation that even left husband David Beckham “panicking.”

The three-part series, simply titled Victoria Beckham, will be released globally on October 9, made by the same team behind David’s hit docuseries Beckham and Michelle Obama’s Becoming. The project promises to give an intimate look at Victoria’s personal and professional life, from her Spice Girls days to her role as the creative force behind her brand.

In the emotional trailer, Victoria sobbed as she admitted: “I want my kids and David to be proud of me.” At one point, David comforted her by saying: “You could make a cheese and ham toasted sandwich and we’d be proud of you,” prompting Victoria to quip back: “Let’s be honest, I couldn’t actually make a cheese sandwich very well.”

The series also confronts her reputation, with Victoria joking: “People thought I was that miserable cow that never smiled. But I do!” Celebrity friends including Tom Ford and Eva Longoria appear to defend her, with Eva revealing that “everyone was warning her she wouldn’t be accepted” in the fashion world.

A striking inclusion is her eldest son Brooklyn Beckham. Despite reports of estrangement, Victoria ensured he would appear, including a scene where he helped mop the runway at Paris Fashion Week after a rainstorm. The doc will also feature her other children Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, offering a full picture of family life.

Viewers will also see candid moments, including the now-iconic scene where David exposed Victoria’s claim of being “very working class” by making her admit her dad drove a Rolls-Royce. Victoria later turned the moment into a £110 T-shirt slogan, proving she knows how to laugh at herself.

The documentary arrives nearly two years after Beckham became Netflix’s most-watched show worldwide, with David now insisting it was time the world saw just how “unbelievably hard-working and clever” his wife really is.
