Shedeur Sanders Touted As ‘Perfect’ Fit For Jets By Mel Kiper Jr.

The New York Jets are in the market for a quarterback, and there’s a variety of ways the franchise can consider going. With two (or three, depending on who you ask) first-round caliber quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL Draft, it seems to be a tossup on if one will fall to the Jets at seven.

The Jets are of course, without a quarterback after announcing the team was moving on from Aaron Rodgers, who led Gang Green to a 5-12 record in his lone season as a starter. There are a number of free agent options as well if the Jets decide to wait to draft a quarterback, but one ESPN analyst thinks the Jets should strike now. Mel Kiper Jr. appeared on ESPN’s NFL Live to talk about his potential Jets pick, in this scenario, the Jets don’t even trade up, with the Raiders opting to sign Sam Darnold in free agency.

“Shedeur in New York with the Jets to me is perfect, he’s used to the bright lights, he’s going to come in there and not be intimidated by it. He had to deal with all the expectations at Colorado, his father Deion. he’s been around this pressure packed environment his whole life.” I love Shedeur. he’s my QB1. If you put him on the Jets, with Josh Allen and Tua, in that division? Are you kidding me? And with Drake Maye coming along? I really like the pick. If he’s there, I think you’ve got to take Shedeur Sanders if you’re the Jets.

Sanders seems to be in hot competition with Miami’s Cam Ward for the QB1 title in the draft. Ward has seemingly been picking up steam on draft boards. Sanders led the nation with a 74.0% completion percentage this past season. He also led the Big 12 in completions (353), pass attempts (477), passing yards (4,134), and touchdowns (37). Sanders’ career completion percentage in FBS of 71.8% is the all time record since 1956, edging out Hawaii’s Colt Brennan. Sanders has drawn some concerns about his character, and it’s unknown how he’ll take to a coach that isn’t his father, but the talent seems to clear all but one quarterback in the draft, and given the Jets’ current situation, it could be an option.
