Coventry City ‘register interest’ in sought-after Championship midfielder

The latest Coventry City news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues are linked with a Blackburn Rovers stalwart

Coventry City have been linked with a move for midfielder Lewis Travis.

Website Football League World claim the Sky Blues ‘are the latest club to register an interest’ in a player who has spent nearly all of his senior career at Blackburn Rovers.

The 27-year-old came through the youth set-up at Liverpool before moving to Ewood Park academy in 2014 and then signing professional terms at the club in 2017.

Since then he has made 263 appearances for Rovers, including 38 in the Championship last term, as Rovers overcame a managerial change to mount a decent play-off bid, albeit one that fell just short.

Indeed, his only period away from Rovers was the second half of the previous season when he helped Ipswich Town win promotion to the Premier League.

Travis has one year left on his contract and it has been reported that the club have been unable to agree new terms, putting a pressure on them to cash in this summer or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months.

Travis has been most regularly linked with Derby County, although Birmingham City’s name has also been throw into the mix.

Travis plays most of his football as a deeper-lying midfielder, an area of relative strength for the Sky Blues with new signing Matt Grimes and Ben Sheaf able to dictate in those areas. Victor Torp and Josh Eccles are also options.

All Coventry City incomings and outgoings this summer, plus the latest transfer rumours

After Championship play-off semi-final defeat at Sunderland, Frank Lampard will look to add some quality to his squad this summer. Here’s every confirmed Coventry transfer so far.

Coventry City were beaten by Sunderland in the Championship play-off semi-finals, ending their 2024/25 campaign in heartbreak.

Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues were shellshocked by Dan Ballard’s dramatic late winner, which means that Coventry will remain in the second tier for another year.

So far in the summer transfer window, the majority of Coventry’s business has been concerned with potential outgoings, but some fresh faces are beginning to come through the doors of the CBS Arena.

As the 2025/26 Championship campaign approaches, EFL Analysis has outlined all the incoming signings, outgoing players, and the latest transfer rumours regarding Coventry.

The first signing of Coventry’s summer came with the acquisition of full-back Miguel Angel Brau on a free transfer from Spanish second tier outfit Granada.

Brau scored twice in 26 La Liga Two outings this season. He told Coventry’s website after his signing: “It’s a great honour for me to be joining Coventry City.

“I can’t wait to put on the Sky Blue shirt and play for this great club in front of the fans.

“I know we will enjoy a lot of success together, and I’m very grateful to everyone who has helped me to arrive here.”

The latest Coventry City transfer rumours

Unfortunately for the Sky Blues faithful, the majority of transfer rumours currently encapsulate potential departures for prized assets.

Sheffield United have targeted Jack Rudoni this summer, and we believe that Coventry ‘will sell’ Rudoni at some point before next season.

In addition to the Englishman, Haji Wright is another Coventry star who could depart this summer, with Leicester and Ipswich keen on Wright.

Regarding potential incomings, Coventry are tracking Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa following the 22-year-old’s impressive loan spell at Preston North End.

However, Coventry face competition for Kesler-Hayden, with second tier rivals Middlesbrough and Southampton also interested in the £5m-rated full-back.
