Derby County move closer to huge striker transfer as Patrick Agyemang’s wish set to be granted

Latest Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you news of the striker deal that will represent a huge investment from the Rams

Derby County are inching towards what is likely to be their biggest signing of the summer as a move for Charlotte FC striker Patrick Agyemang moved a step closer.

According to reports in America, Derby have struck a deal worth $8m (£5.8m) for the striker who is currently away on international duty with the USA.

It now seems a question of when not if the striker makes the move across the Atlantic in what would represent an exciting capture.

Agyemang is regarded as hot property in the MLS and has established himself as the USA’s leading striker having made an impression on manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The forward has long craved playing in Europe and is now set to get his wish with a move to the Championship and England’s second tier.

Derby have long chased a forward that is yet to reach the peak years of his career and become an integral part of the club’s ambitions.

While it represents a sizeable investment, Agyemang has had numerous admirers with Luton Town having a $4m bid rejected in January.

Ipswich Town have also been credited with an interest in the forward who has scored two goals in five games while on Gold Cup duty with the USA.

Charlotte are said to have included a sell-on clause in the deal and the forward represents another show of ambition by Derby.

The club has committed to strengthening their forward line this summer after scoring 48 goals last season, nearly half of which came via set-pieces.

Jerry Yates was the leading goalscorer with 10 goals and carried the burden on his own for leading the attack in the Championship last season.

But Derby have quickly atoned for the lack of firepower by paying an undisclosed fee for Carlton Morris from Luton Town already this summer.

Lars Jorgen-Salvesen, an £800,000 signing from Viking FK, will also be back after recovering from a knee operation.

With Dajaune Brown making up the quartet of strikers, Derby already have far better options than they did last season.
