Harry Styles fans think they’ve cracked secret meaning behind bizarre fake marathon name

Harry Styles posted an incredible finishing time at the annual Berlin marathon while running under a puzzling fake name.

The One Direction star, 31, ran alongside more than 55,000 people in the German capital, which has hosted the 26.2 mile race every year since 1974.

Using the alias Sted Sarandos (seemingly a reference to Netflix CEO, Ted Sarandos), Harry managed to beat his time from the Tokyo marathon six months ago by a whopping 25 minutes, showing that he’s been putting in the work.

While his chosen codename for the race was at first pretty inexplicable, fans now believe they’ve worked out Harry’s reasoning.

Some have suggested online that ‘Sted’ is Harry’s choice of alias because it’s the first two letters of his last name (S and T) combined with his middle name, which is Edward.

Why he referenced the streaming service boss is anyone’s guess, though it’s possible he found the name of a man in charge of telling stories to the world a fitting moniker for his fictional alter ego.

2024 saw the Berlin marathon receive its highest-ever number of successful applicants (54,000), and it appears Harry’s involvement has pushed those numbers up more.

His official time in Berlin was 2h:59m:13s, which absolutely smashed his previous record of 3h:24m:07s and saw him finish less than an hour behind elite race winner Sabastian Sawe.

Completing a marathon in less than three hours is a huge feat for non-elite runner, showing just how much effort the As It Was singer put into his training.

And it appears his fans knew just how impressive the achievement was, with many of them celebrating his time in one of the most high profile running races of the year.

@OliverJones_X said on X: ‘Sub 3 hours is actually crazy for a celebrity marathon… That time puts him in like the top 10% of all runners. Most people would need years of serious training to get close to that.’

@_MoreThanAHAbit said they were ‘proud’ of the Watermelon Sugar singer, while @LizyBeth93 called the Late Night Talking singer a ‘legend’.

Meanwhile, @HLLarrie28 said: ‘I love all this amazing and positive coverage Harry’s getting. He deserves every bit of it!’

On Instagram, SarahWiesHair said: ‘This is such a healthy outlet for the mind and body. I think it’s pretty awesome he’s a long distance runner.’

LBState49er called Harry’s finishing time ‘pretty impressive’ while GabsMRivers joked: ‘We thought he was a singer, he’s actually an athlete.’

A video posted on Instagram on Saturday night appeared to show Harry training for the marathon along the Berlin route while running with some friends.

Harry’s impressive marathon time in Berlin has come amid fan speculation that the One Direction boys may soon be planning a tribute for the late Liam Payne.

The former One Direction singer died in October 2024, aged just 31, after falling from a third floor hotel balcony in the Argentina capital of Buenos Aires.

A recent social media video posted by Louis Tomlinson appeared to show him recording new music, but fans of the Steal My Girl singers seem to think the video contained buried treasure.

According to fans, the audio used in the video contained vocal harmonies from Harry, as well as from former One Direction singer Zayn Malik.

On top of this, one of Louis’ videos showed a man’s reflection, which many fans are hoping is Zayn, indicating that a 1D reunion could be on the cards.
