Wolves handed key opportunity to sign 47-time international in £23m deal with Nottingham Forest also interested

The 22-year-old has racked up 12 Champions League appearances for AC Milan in the past two seasons

Premier League side Wolves have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of AC Milan star Yunus Musah as they weigh up the prospect of bringing the midfielder to Molinuex this summer.

Wolves are thought to be in the market for additional midfielders to compete with Brazilian duo Andre and Joao Gomes after allowing Mario Lemina to leave the club in January.

The Old Gold are already short on options in the middle of the park and are expected to allow out-of-favour former Manchester City academy graduate Tommy Doyle depart to Birmingham City in the coming days.

Wolves receive boost in race to sign Yunus Musah

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims Wolves along with Nottingham Forest are top candidates to sign AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah this summer.

The 47-time USA international is thought to be valued at around 25 million euros (£23m) and is reportedly destined to leave the San Siro in the coming months.

The outlet explains that returning manager Maximo Allegri does not see Musah as part of his plans at AC Milan as he aims to use the funds raised by his exit to mould the team in his image after a subdued campaign under his predecessors Paulo Fonseca and Sérgio Conceição which saw the club finish in eighth position, marking the club’s lowest league finish since 2014/15.

Luca Bianchin, a well renowned journalist in Italy, understand that Forest have ‘opened talks’ already to sign Musah but adds that Wolves are in a healthy position to try and sign him as well as they play to reinvest the Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri earnings back into their first team squad.

The reports adds that the Premier League is thought to be the most likely destination for Musah despite admiration from Fiorentina in Serie A.

Why Wolves are interested in Yunus Musah

Wolves are currently in the process of a rebuild under Vitor Pereira, who is aiming to shape the team in his image after replacing Gary O’Neil in the dugout back in December. He’s thought to admire Musah due to his terrific workrate, his tackling ability, energy and ability to break up opposition attacks with his terrific reading of the game.

Musah had a spell on the books at Arsenal’s academy but really made a name for himself in Spain with Valencia where he played over 100 matches. The American was nominated for the Golden Boy award at the time and was viewed as one of the best rising defensive midfielders in Spanish football.

He joined AC Milan in 2023 for a figure of around £19m and has since played 80 times in two seasons, including 12 times in the Champions League. He formed part of the AC Milan team which won the Supercoppa Italiana this season and is also a member of the USA team that has thrice won the Concacaf Nations League.

Musah is expected to be key player for USA in the World Cup next summer and is likely to seek a move where he will be afforded regular game time ahead of the tournament on home soil.
