“I’m Not Going Anywhere!” Castleford Tigers Stun League by Locking Down Star Forward on Massive Long‑Term Deal
Castleford Tigers forward George Lawler has secured his future after penning a new long-term deal with the club. Lawler’s contract was due to expire at the end of the current Super League season, but he has now penned a three-year extension with the Tigers.
That ensures he will be with the club until the end of the 2028 season, by which time he will be 33 years old. The Tigers are entering a new era under owner Martin Jepson and director of rugby Chris Chester, who are looking to appoint a new head coach over the coming days.
With a five-year plan being communicated by the board last week, which sees the Tigers striving to return to the play-off picture by next season, Lawler’s new deal ensures he will be spearheading that charge.
The 29-year-old, who turns 30 in September, has been with the Tigers since the start of the 2022 campaign.
In the three and a half years that have passed since, he has made 79 appearances and scored seven tries. Interestingly, five of those tries have come this season with Lawler hitting some fine form, which he has been now been rewarded for.

“We are delighted to get this deal over the line,” Chester told the club website. “George is a very influential player in the squad and consistently performs well.
“He’s a player that leads with his actions on the field and is equally impressive off it. I’m looking forward to seeing George playing in Cas colours for the next three years.
Lawler started his career with hometown club Hull KR, where he made 103 outings, of which 80 were starts. He played a role in helping the Robins win promotion from the Championship in 2017 and helped the club re-establish themselves in the top flight.
