In the first of their Euro 2025 qualifying play-offs, Katie McCabe captained Ireland to a 6-0 win over Georgia, scoring twice and assisting twice in the process.
The Irish skipper hit first from the penalty spot, before beating the goalkeeper with an outrageous strike just past the halfway line.
Norway also made a positive start to the play-offs against Albania, with Frida Maanum opening the scoring in the impressive 5-0 victory. Our Norwegian received the ball on the move and squeezed her shot through two defenders to nestle in the bottom corner.
To continue the play-off success, Stina Blackstenius was on the scoresheet for Sweden in their 4-0 win over Luxembourg. Our striker was subbed off eight minutes from time, with Rosa Kafaji also playing over an hour for Sweden.
Manuela Zinsberger kept a clean sheet for Austria as they ran out 3-0 winners in their first play-off against Slovenia.
In friendly action, Kathrine Kuhl hit the target for Denmark as they thrashed South Africa 5-0. Our young midfielder rounded off the win with a superbly taken strike in the penalty area, just six minutes after coming on as a substitute.
The points were shared between Switzerland and Australia in Zurich as Caitlin Foord’s penalty just before half-time was soon cancelled out by Geraldine Reuteler. Both Foord and Lia Walti played the full 90 minutes, whilst Kyra Cooney-Cross was in action for 78 minutes and Steph Catley played the last 25.
Emily Fox was involved in the US Women’s National Team’s late 3-1 victory over Iceland in Texas. Our right-back featured for 66 minutes in the friendly match.
Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and Alessia Russo were all in action during a rollercoaster rematch of the Euro 2022 final. Unlike two years ago, Germany came up on top at Wembley Stadium with goals from Giulia Gwinn, Klara Buhl and Sara Dabritz, despite England’s best efforts to rescue an early three-goal deficit.
Mariona Caldentey and Laia Codina were both involved for Spain’s full match against Canada. The friendly ended 1-1 courtesy of Cristina Martin-Prieto’s 89th minute equaliser.
Maddy Earl bagged a brace for England U19s in their 3-1 win over the Netherlands in the Algarve Cup. Vivienne Lia played the full game for the young Lionesses and Jessie Gale made her England debut as a 77th-minute substitute.
The England U23 squad also faced the Dutch and drew 1-1, with Michelle Agyemang starting for the side. Our young Lionesses at the U17 FIFA World Cup continue their journey on Sunday evening with a quarter-final against Japan (11pm UK).
