Javon Hargrave is Headed to the Twin Cities: Former 49ers’ DT Set to Sign With Vikings

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to release defensive tackle Javon Hargrave soon, making him a free agent. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Minnesota Vikings are poised to sign Hargrave once he becomes available.

General manager John Lynch stated in January that the 49ers plan to release Hargrave with a post-June 1 designation. This move will save the team $2.2 million in cap space this season. However, the savings will not be reflected until after June 1.

Hargrave, 32, spent the past two seasons with the 49ers after signing a four-year, $84 million contract in 2023. During that time, he recorded 51 tackles (nine for a loss), 15 quarterback hits, eight sacks, and two passes defensed.

Hargrave’s 2024 season was cut short by a torn triceps suffered in Week 3. He finished the year with seven tackles (one for a loss), a sack, and a quarterback hit.

His best season came in 2022 with the Philadelphia Eagles, when he recorded 60 tackles and a career-high 11 sacks.
