The Green Bay Packers have a plethora of needs to address this offseason, including wide receiver. Though the team has a few young pieces with promise in the position group, including Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs, Green Bay doesn’t have a reliable No.1 receiver for quarterback Jordan Love.
General manager Brian Gutekunst could select a playmaker in the first few rounds of April’s draft, but Lombardi Ave’s Keaton Gall believes the Packers should pursue a reunion with soon-to-be-released New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams in free agency.
“Perhaps a few of you have heard this name before. Adams played the first eight seasons of his career in Green Bay, where he became a superstar in the NFL. In a wide receiver room with no clear-cut first option, Adams would provide some much-needed stability for quarterback Jordan Love,” Gall wrote.
Adams established himself as one of the best receivers in football with the Packers before being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2022 offseason. The veteran is likely to be released by the Jets, and though he had a tumultuous 2024 campaign, a reunion makes a ton of sense for both sides.
The Packers need receiving help, and Adams is still one of the most productive pass catchers in football, as the six-time Pro Bowler has posted five straight 1,000-yard campaigns and hauled in 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games last season.
Additionally, signing Adams shouldn’t cost too much, as Spotrac projects the star receiver will land a two-year deal worth $27.1 million, which averages to $13.6 million annually. Green Bay is slated to have $49 million in cap space, per Over the Cap, which should be plenty of money to add Adams and address other needs on the roster.
Though things didn’t end well during his first stint with the Packers, bringing back Davante Adams to serve as the No.1 receiver for Love and a mentor for the young players in the position group would be a savvy move from Brian Gutekunst.
