Arsenal striker in talks with Bundesliga club ahead of possible move
Arsenal striker is in talks to join German Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach in search of regular playing time
Arsenal’s impressive start to the season has sparked optimism around the club, not just for the first team but also for the academy talents emerging from Hale End. While the Gunners’ senior squad boasts world-class quality, several academy players are making a strong case for the future. Ethan Nwaneri has been a standout performer, and Myles Lewis-Skelly has also caught Mikel Arteta’s eye.
However, with such depth and competition for places, some young talents may seek opportunities elsewhere to secure first-team football. According to German football journalist Dominik Schneider, one such player is academy striker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, who is reportedly in talks with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 21-year-old forward has been in discussions with the German club since last week, with Gladbach offering him the chance to break into their first team immediately. Butler-Oyedeji’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire in February 2024, meaning he could be on his way out of North London within a few months.
Butler-Oyedeji has been in fine form this season, tallying five goals and two assists in just five Premier League 2 appearances. Despite this strong start, he has yet to make his competitive debut for the Arsenal first team, and with his contract nearing its end, it appears likely that his future lies away from the Emirates.
The talent within Arsenal’s academy is undeniable, but with the senior squad now operating at an elite level, even promising players like Butler-Oyedeji face an uphill battle to break into the first team. Although the young striker has shown he could perform well in the Premier League, the Gunners’ current standards mean only world-class players are breaking through at the moment.
As negotiations with Borussia Monchengladbach continue, it seems increasingly likely that Butler-Oyedeji will move on in search of more playing time, with the Bundesliga club ready to offer him that opportunity.
