Manchester United haven’t had much to shout about on the pitch in recent weeks – though there could be some brilliant news off it , with youngster Kobbie Mainoo’s contract set to be extended by new owners INEOS with the club in talks to extend his deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Displacing the likes of Sofyan Amrabat and even Casemiro at times, youngster Mainoo has made a first-team spot his own at Old Trafford, which has seen him involved in the England squad ahead of EURO 2024. His rise at Old Trafford has been nothing short of sensational and that is set to continue with the offer of a new deal.

According to Romano, United are ‘pushing’ in talks to extend his deal after initial discussions with his entourage in February. INEOS – backed by new minority-owned Jim Ratcliffe – want Mainoo to be one of the faces of their new project, and they are said to have offered him a salary increase alongside several add-ons
His form and rare skillset in the deeper, possession-safe role is not seen much in English football and Mainoo possesses that in abundance; and having already been capped under Gareth Southgate, there is an extra impetus for United to keep him on their books for a long period of time.
Alongside Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo, United’s young attacking options are looking plentiful for the future and it comes as no surprise that INEOS want to base the start of their tenure around genuine prodigies in a bid to keep them for a future springboard.
Mainoo is arguably the biggest prodigy of those talents. The midfielder has already positioned himself with a level of maturity, composure and guile in the United engine room and with a genuine chance of making England’s squad for EURO 2024, a new deal would give himself and United confidence that he can develop to become a real star in the future to take both club and country to higher levels.
Should United qualify for European football next season, it could also be a chance for Mainoo to prove himself against some of the best talents on the continent and by saving money in the centre of the park by adding homegrown talents, that is something Ratcliffe will look favourably upon for the coming years.
