‘Ben Chilwell set to join Premier League club after Chelsea transfer decision’

Ben Chilwell is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs as he will be allowed to leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that all parties are keen for the 28-year-old to leave Stamford Bridge.

The left-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Crystal Palace where he helped lift the FA Cup, but the Blues’ price tag proved to high for a permanent deal.

Football Insider revealed in February that Chelsea will move Chilwell on permanently following his loan spell at Selhurst Park as he has no future at the club.

The three newly-promoted clubs have all considered moves to land the defender, while West Ham have been long-term admirers but are eyeing other options.

Meanwhile, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Chelsea are prepared to cash in on Chilwell to get his wages off the books.

Ben Chilwell to quit Chelsea in late-window deal

Brown told Football Insider in February that Chilwell is “one of England’s best” left-backs when at the top of his game and labelled him an “excellent” signing.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted Premier League interest in the Chelsea man could materialise later in the window.

“Ben Chilwell is going to leave Chelsea this summer,” he told Football Insider.

“Crystal Palace decided to look elsewhere because the money they were asking for was too much.

“I think Chelsea’s asking price and the player’s wages made that deal difficult for them.

“But as the window drags on, I expect their stance will change and they’ll be more open to lower fees just to move him on because they want him to go.

“I think Ben Chilwell is a very, very good full-back and he showed that at times at Palace.

“From what I’m told, there are plenty of Premier League clubs looking at him.

“There are a few clubs short of good left-backs, I know the three promoted clubs have had a look, and West Ham were considering it as well.

“I’d be very surprised if he didn’t leave Chelsea before this window closes, so it’s one to keep an eye on.”
