Panthers sweat on judiciary report as Andrew Johns fumes at ‘dangerous’ act

Penrith will nervously monitor the fate of one player with the match review committee and assess injury concern for two after a dominant victory over the Bulldogs.

Brad Schneider was the man placed on report for the Panthers while Casey McLean and Liam Martin both left the field with injuries in the second half.

Schneider went into the knee of Bulldogs forward Sitili Tupouniua who was being held up high by Martin and Isaah Yeo.

Andrew Johns didn’t shy away in expressing his frustration at the act.

“Get that tackle out of the game … there’s got to be severe punishment, it is just dangerous, outright dangerous,” he said on Nine.

It’s not the only worry with McLean leaving the field in the 65th minute.

Early in the match he came out of a tackle clutching at his shoulder with Johns saying he was “in all sorts” but McLean played on. The injury late in the match was revealed to be a hip pointer by coach Ivan Cleary.

“He reckons he’s fine so hopefully he’s all right,” he added.

Martin departed with seven minutes to go after falling on the ball and clutching at his ribs.

The second-rower went down the tunnel and looked to be in agony. However, he returned to the bench minutes later, and was observed to be laughing.

“Marto’s OK, he just got crunched by Kiks (Kikau), I think he was winded more than anything,” Cleary said post-match.
