The Las Vegas Raiders need a quarterback and could use a top wide receiver as well.
It isn’t possible to draft both such players with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, but they may be able to package that selection with a couple other draft assets to land a proven QB/WR combo out of the NFC West Division.
Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report on Wednesday, March 5, authored a trade proposal in which the Raiders send the Seattle Seahawks the No. 6 pick along with a third-rounder 2026 and a seventh-round pick swap next year for wide receiver DK Metcalf and quarterback Geno Smith.
“The Raiders aren’t going to part with the sixth overall pick for Metcalf alone — or at least they shouldn’t. But the opportunity to add a proven veteran quarterback and a No. 1 wide receiver could be significantly more tempting — especially given Pete Carroll’s prior relationship with both players,” Davenport wrote. “Las Vegas turbocharges its rebuild. The Seahawks get a pick that could be combined with their own first-rounder to make a play for the first overall pick.”
Metcalf publicly requested a trade out of Seattle on Wednesday and said he wants to go to a contender. The Raiders aren’t exactly that after a three-win season in 2024. However, adding Smith to the fold as well as Metcalf after re-upping with star defensive end Maxx Crosby on a three-year extension definitely raises the team’s ceiling in 2025.
Smith is entering the final year of his contract and made the Pro Bowl in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023. Metcalf is also a two-time Pro Bowler (2020, 2023) and won’t turn 28 years old until late next season.
