Rangers are set to announce the signing of Thelo Aasgaard, with the attacking midfielder preparing to make the move to Ibrox from Luton Town.

The 23-year-old will become Russell Martin’s fourth addition since taking charge, joining three other new faces already secured during the transfer window.

The club is also believed to be nearing a loan agreement for Wolves defender Nasser Djiga, who could further bolster Martin’s defensive options.

Aasgaard to be presented before Club Brugge friendly

Rangers kick off their pre-season schedule on Sunday, 6 July, with a home fixture against Club Brugge. According to the Daily Record (4 July), the club aims to complete Aasgaard’s deal in time for him to be presented to supporters at Ibrox before the match.

The transfer will reportedly cost an initial £3 million, potentially rising to £4 million with performance-related bonuses.

Martin must unlock Aasgaard’s full potential

Aasgaard, who has netted 14 goals and registered three assists over 48 appearances for both Luton Town and Wigan Athletic, is admired for his pacey dribbling, sharp footballing intelligence, and goal threat.

A Danish international, he is effective in tight spaces and excels either cutting inside from the left or operating as a No. 10, leveraging his agility and low centre of gravity to beat defenders.

To get the best from him, Martin is expected to slot Aasgaard into the central attacking midfield role in his 4-2-3-1 formation, offering him the creative license to connect with wide players and break down defences.

Focusing on pressing drills and positional discipline during pre-season will be key to integrating Aasgaard into Martin’s dynamic, high-possession system—helping him thrive in the Scottish Premiership.
