Toni Kroos is the first men’s player to retire in Real Madrid since Rúben de la Red in 2008. In the short history of Las Blancas, two players recently finalized their careers in the white club – the German defender Babett Peter in 2022 and the French goalkeeper Méline Gérard in 2023. No one was left coldblooded following the announcement of Toni Kroos’s departure, especially not his clubmates that play for Real Madrid’s first women’s team. Many Real Madrid Femenino players shared the German’s announcement and reacted to it through social media.
To start off, the Las Blancas midfielder, Teresa Abelleira, put up an X post with a photo from the Adidas photoshoot with the Champions League balls for the 2023/2024 season, and a picture of the signed shirt by Kroos dedicated to Tere.
“The art of passing… Thank you for your football and values. Legend,” said Abelleira.
Caroline Weir commented under the German’s departure announcement letter on Instagram saying “Legend”.
Claudia Zornoza reposted the German midfielder’s post recognizing his professionalism saying “Admirable professional”. Sandie Toletti and Misa Rodríguez captioned their stories with “legend”. From these reactions we can draw a conclusion that Las Blancas midfielders sure have a special place in their hearts for Toni Kroos.
