With reports earlier today claiming that Nacho Fernandez will leave Real Madrid in the summer, the Merengues are likely to go after the signing of a new central defender with greater intent.
Even though Rafa Marin is likely to return from his loan spell at Deportivo Alaves and join the first-team setup, it is widely expected that Real Madrid will sign another centre-half in the summer.
Leny Yoro the ‘main target’
For a while now, it has been reported that Real Madrid are interested in signing Leny Yoro from Lille in the summer.
Further reinforcing the sentiment, Fabrizio Romano reports that the 18-year-old teenage prodigy is seen as the ‘main target’ for the centre-back position by the Spanish capital club.
Yoro, 18, is enjoying a fine breakthrough campaign at Lille and has attracted interest from a plethora of top clubs, including Real Madrid and PSG.
Los Blancos, for their part, are understood to have made contact with Yoro’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to get on top of the situation and secure his signing.
Yoro’s current contract with Lille expires in the summer of 2025 and he has not shown any indication of wanting to sign a new deal.
An exit is very much on the cards, with some outlets even mentioning that Real Madrid might be ‘best positioned’ to sign him.
However, as per Romano, the price tag that Lille set for their asset will play a key role in whether the move goes through or not.
What is certain is that Yoro is the top priority target for Real Madrid when it comes to reinforcing the centre-back department.
