According to the latest report from Daily Star, Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva and could be the frontrunners to secure his services.
The Portuguese’s future at Manchester City has been called into question of late despite committing his future to the Premier League champions until 2026, having signed an extension in August 2023.
By signing an extension, the 29-year-old effectively ended Barcelona’s pursuit last year, putting an end to a long chase.
The reason why the City playmaker has attracted so much attention is because of this £50 million (€58 million) release clause; something that has alerted not only Madrid, but also the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal.
Bernardo Silva prefers Spain
According to the outlet, if the player decides to leave, he seems to prefer Spain as his next destination.
It is to be noted that Manchester City bought the Portuguese midfielder from Monaco for around €69 million in 2017, and his potential departure could see him joining one of Spain’s top clubs.
Since Barcelona are struggling to gather the necessary funds for a deal, Real Madrid likely have the edge in the race.
Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid?
With Luka Modric’s time at Real Madrid nearing its end, the team acknowledges the need for experienced players in their relatively young squad.
Silva, a seasoned player with five league titles, a Champions League victory, two FA Cups, and four League Cups at City, is considered an ideal candidate to bring his expertise to Real Madrid.
As of today, Silva remains content at Manchester City and has no plans to join another Premier League club, effectively ruling out a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
However, it does appear likely that if he is to move, he will move abroad, with Real Madrid positioned to secure his transfer and win the race for his signature
