Real Madrid want to renew the contracts of two players as a priority

Fresh from their narrow win over Barcelona over the weekend, Real Madrid are now the undisputed favourites to secure the league title this season.

That means the club can not only focus on the Champions League but also kickstart their preparations for the season ahead.

One of Real Madrid’s top priorities will be to secure the future of their veterans, such as Toni Kroos, Lucas Vazquez, Luka Modric and Nacho.

Kroos is likely to renew for another season whereas Nacho and Modric may end up leaving Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

Real Madrid prioritise renewal of Vazquez, Lunin

With the prospect of Nacho and Modric’s departure looming large, Real Madrid have now stepped up their efforts to renew the contract of their other veteran Lucas Vazquez.

That is according to Mundo Deportivo which suggests Real Madrid consider Vazquez’s renewal very ‘urgent’, knowing the versatile defender could continue to play a key role for the club going forward.

Vazquez’s current deal at the Bernabeu expires at the end of the season. Although the 32-year-old’s preference is to continue for at least another year, he is yet to make a final decision over his future.

Andriy Lunin: Another urgency for Real Madrid

In addition to Vazquez, Real Madrid also want to urgently resolve the contract situation of Andriy Lunin.

The Ukrainian international was Real Madrid’s hero in their narrow win over Manchester City in the Champions League. Overall this season, Lunin has performed superbly, filling in the shoes of the injured Thibaut Courtois.

However, with Courtois more than likely to reclaim his position as the number-one ‘keeper next season, many expect Lunin to move on and find a new challenge elsewhere.

Real Madrid, though, are determined to convince Lunin to prolong his career in the Spanish capital. Los Blancos, though, are set for a tough round of negotiations with Lunin’s new agent, Jorge Mendes.
