Remembrance Day

This November, Arsenal is proud to stand together with football clubs throughout the United Kingdom in support of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

Sgt Adam Desborough, Trumpet Major, will play The Last Post before kick-off today, and the club welcomes special guests CPOPT Liam Saunders from the Royal Navy, Sergeant Major,WO1 (RASM) James Lightfoot and Lance Bombardier Reece Mead-Lamont from The Royal Artillery, Flt Sgt Jamie Sutherland from the RAF and Captain Henry Tregear from the British Army. There will also be a moment of reflection before kick-off.

As a symbol of respect, Arsenal players will also wear shirts featuring the poppy emblem in the upcoming Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Chelsea, and our WSL game against Brighton & Hove Albion. After the games, these shirts will be signed by the players who wore them and made available to own via auction by MatchWornShirt. All of the net proceeds of these auctions will go to the Royal British Legion.

Supporters also have the opportunity to get their hands on a squad-signed shirt offered in a special giveaway at MatchWornShirt, which will be free to enter and run from now until November 11.

This is the sixth consecutive year that MatchWornShirt has teamed up with the Royal British Legion, having previously raised close to £3 million for the Poppy Appeal. The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal takes place from Thursday, October 24 until Remembrance Sunday on November 10. Every year the RBL leads the nation in Remembrance across the UK to honour the contribution of our Armed Forces community, past and present.

Since it was first worn as an act of Remembrance just over 100 years ago, the red poppy has become an enduring symbol of support for our Armed Forces.
