Surprise Team Could Enter the Davante Adams Sweepstakes: Report

The New York Jets are expected to soon part ways with star wide receiver Davante Adams, bringing an end to the Adams-Aaron Rodgers era in the Big Apple after just four months.

And while Adams, 32, is a bit older and not quite the elite receiver he used to be, there still could be a sizable market for him among WR-needy teams should he hit free agency.

Adams caught 67 passes for 854 yards and seven touchdowns in the 11 games after the Jets acquired him in a midseason trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, and he finished the season with 85 receptions on 141 targets with 1,063 yards and eight total touchdowns — proving he’s still a borderline No. 1 target.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there are three teams Adams would like to play for next season, and one surprise team that could enter the mix.

“He will have options, and I’m told that he is intrigued by the West Coast,” Fowler said on “SportsCenter.” “You have teams like the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, maybe San Francisco 49ers. He’s from the West Coast, so it’s a possibility he could end up there. Maybe the Packers want to run it back to him as well if they could get involved there.”

Adams played eight seasons with the Packers from 2014 to 2021 while Rodgers was their QB, where he made five of his six Pro Bowls and earned two of his first-team All-Pro honors.

If Adams did reunite with the Packers, he could be the kind of impact pass-catcher running back Josh Jacobs hinted the team has been missing a few weeks ago.

“I love the guys that we have in the receiving room,” Jacobs stated. “They all have the potential to be [a No.] 1, but we need a guy that’s proven to be [a No.] 1.”
