Tennessee junior Karlyn Pickens has once again cemented her status as one of collegiate softball’s brightest stars, earning four prestigious weekly pitching honors. This week, the standout right-handed pitcher was named SEC Pitcher of the Week and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Pitcher of the Week for the third consecutive time. Additionally, she was honored as the D1Softball Pitcher of the Week and Softball America Star of the Week.
Pickens (17-4), a native of Weaverville, North Carolina, achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first student-athlete to secure NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors in three consecutive weeks. Her stellar performances have been instrumental in the Lady Vols’ success this season, bringing her career total to three NFCA Pitcher of the Week awards and 10 SEC Weekly honors.
Her latest accolades follow an impressive showing against No. 1 Texas at Fred and Charlene McCombs Field in Austin. Pickens delivered two complete-game victories, allowing only two runs on 10 hits and six walks over 15 innings. She also struck out 20 batters, showcasing her ability to dominate against the nation’s top competition.
Earlier in the season, Pickens was recognized for her outstanding contributions during Tennessee’s series victories against Mississippi State and No. 2 Oklahoma. The Lady Vols made history in Norman, Oklahoma, becoming the first SEC team to win a league series against the Sooners, with Pickens playing a pivotal role in the achievement.
