Fans of football have taken to social media to praise Antony’s amazing pass that set up Alejandro Garnacho’s second goal in Manchester United’s 4-3 loss to Chelsea.
Within four minutes, United was down a goal. Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer gave Chelsea a quick 2-0 lead, and it looked like the game was quickly getting away from the guests.
It was 2-2 at halftime, but Erik ten Hag’s team scored two goals in the second half to make it 3-2. The Red Devils fought back.
The young Argentine player then gave his team the lead with a close-range header over Djordje Petrovic in the 67th minute. But Antony’s assist was the key, as Palmer scored twice in stoppage time to make it 4-3.
As the away team tried to catch Chelsea off guard, the Brazil international broke free down the right after taking Marcus Rashford’s place in the team.
With Garnacho bursting into the middle, Antony saw a good spot and crossed the ball with the outside of his left foot. It went beautifully behind the Chelsea defense and onto a teammate.
Darren Fletcher, a commentator for TNT Sports, was thrilled and said, “That’s one of the passes of the season.” Garnacho added the finishing touch.
“Without a doubt—different class,” said his co-commentator Ally McCoist in response.
Antony has been criticized at times this season, but he deserved all the praise that came his way, and fans flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to give him lots of praise.
One wrote, “That Antony helps damn, I’m sorry I didn’t believe you, king.”
One more person said, “Garnacho’s header came from the most amazing travel assist by—was that Antony?” Have I had a drink?
A third said, “WOW WOW WOW…that assist by Antony was world class.”
