Spurs insider hands massive boost to Wrexham as Phil Parkinson plots Ben Davies transfer
Wrexham have been linked with a summer move for Welsh legend Ben Davies at Spurs. But after signing a new contract, there are doubts over the potential move.
There are some exciting names on the growing list of players linked with a move to Wrexham this summer, with one of them having already made his way to the Racecourse.
Wrexham have completed the signing of Ryan Hardie and it’s a great start for Phil Parkinson, though much more is needed if the Dragons are going to be a competitive force in the Championship next season.
And one exciting name linked with the club is Ben Davies. The 96-cap Welsh legend was set to be out of contract this summer, but Spurs triggered a one-year extension to Davies’ contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2026.
Despite that, Wrexham remain interested in signing Davies, whilst other clubs like Preemie League Leeds United have been strongly linked with a move for the 32-year-old.
Spurs insider says Wrexham transfer target Ben Davies could still leave
It appears that all is not lost for Wrexham in their pursuit of Davies this summer. Spurs insider Alasdair Gold has been speaking about the defender, and he says that it still seems likely that he moves on this summer, suggesting that Spurs’ renewing his contract was simply a ploy to not lose him for nothing.
Gold explained: “There still may be another departure. Davies has had the extra year taken up on his contract, but I’m not entirely sure that guarantees he stays. I think that’s just the club protecting itself.”
Davies arrived in North London as part of a £13.5million double deal involving Michel Vorm back in 2014. Swansea academy graduate went on to make an incredible 358 appearances for Spurs, having made a career total of 313 Premier League appearances to date.
The one thing Ben Davies has never done, it could be a deal-breaker for Wrexham
Davies has been there and done it all in his career. Or just about. He’s won a League Cup with Swansea, a Europa League with Spurs, also reaching the final of the Champions League with the Londoners back in 2019.
All the while he’s been a huge player for Wales, playing in World Cups and Euro tournaments. But Davies has never played in the Championship before.
Going into this summer it was reported that Parkinson wants to sign Championship-experienced players at Wrexham, as shown in the signing of Hardie.
Whilst Davies is hugely experienced, a lack of Championship experience could be something for Parkinson to consider, as the difference in style between the Premier League and the Championship is vast.
That, and Parkinson’s style of play at Wrexham is different to the style that Davies would’ve played under numerous Spurs managers, so there could definitely be a bedding in period if Davies signs.
Nonetheless, it looks like it would be a great signi
