Victoria Beckham Can’t Wait to ‘Give the Good News’ to David Beckham That He’s Nominated in PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive Poll

  • David Beckham is so sexy, he’s being nominated for awards and doesn’t even know it.

While visiting Live with Kelly and Mark, wife Victoria Beckham, 51, was informed that the retired soccer star is posing some serious competition for Mark Consuelos in the Sexiest Football Club Owner category of PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive Readers’ Choice Poll (which closed Monday — with results to be revealed on Oct. 27).

“I’m assuming you voted for my husband as I voted for your husband,” Kelly Ripa began. “They’re in the most consequential election of our time here in the States,” she joked.

“I just found out about this,” Beckham responded. “I’m gonna go home and give him that good news because he has no idea.”

And though the fact that David has been clueless about his nomination suggested Mark has a shot to win the category since Beckham hasn’t been campaigning, Kelly was quick to point out that might just mean it’s a tougher fight for her hubby.

“That’s how sexy he is,” she teased. “He doesn’t need to campaign.”

Consuelos previously made a plea after finding out he was up against David, Ryan Reynolds, Rob Mac (formerly McElhenney) and Tom Brady in the Sexiest Football Club Owner category. Having won last year, in the “Sexiest Talk Show Host” arena, Consuelos immediately realized he might be the underdog this year.

“Wait, I’m going up against Beckham?” he asked, before throwing back to his joking feud with Jimmy Fallon from last year. “Listen, Beckham’s won so much! Now I sound like Jimmy Fallon, oh my gosh! ‘David! Let me win this one, David! Becks!’ … If I’m going to lose to anybody, it’s gotta be David Beckham.”

Other things he and David have in common?

Making their poor wives arrive unceremoniously early to parties. Victoria and Kelly had a mini-bonding moment where they discussed their husbands’ unshakeable need to arrive at events before even the wait staff gets there.

“I don’t like to be late,” Mark explained. “I think it’s the way I was raised. If you’re on time, you’re late. If you’re 15 minutes [early], you’re on time.” The explanation landed on deaf ears as Victoria revealed she once arrived at a soccer match four hours ahead of time because of David.

The fashion designer was visiting Live to promote her eponymous Netflix documentary, which arrived on the streaming platform on Oct. 8. The film chronicles her journey to becoming a respected fashion designer and reveals that some of her rookie business mistakes impacted her marriage, as David was an investor.

“I almost lost everything and that was a dark, dark time. I used to cry before I went to work every day because I felt like a firefighter. We were tens of millions in the red,” she revealed. “Yes, I’m going home to my husband, but I’m going home to my business partner as well. And so I would talk to him about it. I had to. He was invested. And I hated it. I absolutely hated it.”

Victoria Beckham is available to stream now.
