Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer meeting revealed as Andrea Berta makes huge breakthrough

Arsenal will be eager to return to winning ways after they were held to a draw by Everton at the weekend. The Gunners will host Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night for the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal.

Mikel Arteta’s side stormed past PSV Eindhoven in the round of 16 last month, winning 9-3 on aggregate, meanwhile, Los Blancos needed extra time and penalties to get past Atletico Madrid. While Real Madrid are the title holders, they’ve shown signs of weakness recently.

The Spanish giants lost to Valencia on Saturday afternoon, with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe playing a full 90 minutes. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Arsenal news and transfer gossip.

Shearer sends Arsenal warning with Cunha claim

Andrea Berta could think twice before launching a bid to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves this summer following Alan Shearer’s latest comments. Speaking on Match of the Day, the Premier League legend suggested that his side have looked better without the Arsenal target in the starting lineup.

Shearer said: “The question was how were they going to get on with the four games without their best player, Cunha. Well, I actually think they’ve looked like a better team and the manager actually said it there.”

football.london says: “Alan Shearer may be right, but there’s no denying Matheus Cunha’s quality. He’s a joy to watch. My only concern is his position. Mikel Arteta needs a striker. Would he lead the Arsenal frontline better than say Viktor Gyokeres? I’m not convinced.”

Gyokeres agent set for Arsenal visit

According to FootballTransfers, Viktor Gyokeres’ entourage will be in attendance at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night to watch Arsenal versus Real Madrid in the Champions League. The report claims that the Gunners have stepped up their interest in the Sporting CP striker following the appointment of a new sporting director.

It’s said that Berta is ‘leading the charge’ for Gyokeres, who has been identified as his ‘top striker target for the summer transfer window’. The Italian wasn’t afraid to splash the cash on strikers during his time at Atletico Madrid, spending big on the likes of Joao Felix, Julian Alvarez and Alvaro Morata.

football.london says: “Viktor Gyokeres would be a class signing for Arsenal. My only fear would be the price tag. He’s obviously going to be expensive, but the Gunners must be reasonable here.

“If you’re prepared to pay around £80m for the Sporting talisman, then just fork out another £20m and go for Alexander Isak instead! The Newcastle United striker should be at the top of Andrea Berta’s shortlist this summer…”

Arsenal prepare swoop for ‘next Vardy’

According to The Sun, Arsenal are ‘ready’ to sign Harvey Higgins from Blackburn Rovers. The report claims that the Gunners have identified the 16-year-old striker as a target – and they’re hoping to secure his signature in the ‘next few weeks’.
