West Ham’s search for a potential replacement for current managerial incumbent David Moyes took a new twist on Monday as Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim flew into England for talks.
Although Moyes remains in situ, it is widely believed the Scot will call time on his second spell at the club when the current campaign ends next month.
And that view has been strengthened in recent days following KUMB’s revelation that former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has been sounded out and the appearance of Amorin in London yesterday.
The 39-year-old coach, who is contracted to his current club for a further two seasons is reported to have met with West Ham representatives before flying back to Portugal last night.
“West Ham presented their project and will insist for Amorim,” said journalist Fabrizio Romano. “Nothing done yet. Amorim will discuss his future steps with his agents.”
Meanwhile Portuguese source A Bola, also commenting on the story added: “The proposed salary for Ruben Amorim was considerably higher than put on the table by Liverpool,” while adding that West Ham “presented the freedom to design a squad to his liking and according to his ideas.”
The former midfielder, who played for Belenenses, Benfica and Portugal – for whom he received 14 caps – has also been reported to be high on the list of potential candidates to replace Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, who is stepping down from his role on Merseyside at the end of the season.
In addition to Lopetegui and Amorin, current Lille boss Paulo Fonseca is also a potential target – although no talks have taken place with the 51-year-old former defender as yet.
